New York: Apple Inc's first pre-assembled computer, The Apple-1, is sold for $905,000 at the NY auction last Wednesday. The amount was far outstripping expectations.
The relic, which sparked a revolution in the home computing is thought to be among the first batch of 50 Apple-1 machines assembled by Apple Inc's co-founder Steve Wozniak in Steve Job's garage.
The auction house Bonhams said it had expected to sell the system, which was working fine as of September, for an amount between $300,000 - $500,000.
The system was bought buy Henry Ford organisation, which plans to display the system in it's museum located in Dearborn, Michigan.
Henry Ford President, Patricia Mooradian says "The Apple-1 was not just innovative, but it's a key artifact in the foundation of the dogital revolution".
The Apple-1 had few buyers until Paul Terrell, owner of the electronics retailer Byte Shop, placed order for 50 computers and was for $666.66 each. After that initial success, Steve Jobs & Steve Wezniak produced another 150 which was sold to different vendors and friends.
Earlier a working Apple-1 was sold by Sotheby's auction house back in 2012 for an amount of $374,500.
